Troop Committee Meeting March 20, 2002 Attendees: Ed Nichols, Bonnie Branch, Rita Bonds, Tom Schob, George Kerr, Cindy McCarthy, Bill Scott, Charlie Hood, Pat Kelly, John Benavides, Dan Lassiter, Craig Christensen, Sharon Hood. Scouts: Matt Teplow Chair: Mark Steger Minutes: Mark Steger 1. Treasurer - Sharon Hood o February report - 7 month YTD income is $24483. Expenses are $22197. o Family Camp financials - Campout had a deficit of $296, due largely to the Troop Committee chairman mis-setting the budget for food. o Fundraiser: T-shirts - Bill Scott - T-shirt sales are still not at the break-even point. The troop can really use a couple of adults who will help organize setting up a table outside a local merchant. 2. PLC - Matt Teplow o Phone chain broke down before the last Troop meeting. PLC should work on ways to strengthen this. o Nominations for SPL were held March 18. A second round of nominations will be made March 25. Parents, discuss this with your sons. 3. Roundtable - Ed Nichols o Drug Awareness was discussed. o Scout Show Kickoff was held March 19. Dan Lassiter attended. Cindy McCarthy will coordinate ticket sales. Parents, this is an opportunity for Scouts to earn money to defray some of the expenses of their Scouting. Ed Nichols will organize the booth. Expected activity will be from the Electricity merit badge. Thanks to these adults and others who volunteer for this activity. o Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat adult training opportunity is coming up, April 13. See Mark Steger for more information. 4. Campouts - Richard Carter o Camp Wisdom NRA certification - Larry Herrin - A very successful outing for about 8 of our Scouts. o One-day patrol competition, March 23 - March 23, 8:45AM-4:30PM at 111 Ranch in Garland - Webelos patrols have been invited from local Packs o Camporee - Camp Cherokee, April 5-7 - Camporee fees are due March 22 ($35/Scout, $9/Webelos) - 45 Webelos Scouts and their parents plan to attend. o Texas Rangers game - Cindy McCarthy - Cindy McCarthy volunteered to coordinate Troop 81's participation at the April 27 Scout Night. o Northern Tier - Rita Bonds - Troop has one crew planned for 2002. o Sea Base - Mark Steger - Troop has one boat planned for 2002. - We need a coordinator for 2003 soon. First step is to organize a phone bank to call Sea Base for reservations. o Philmont - Mark Steger - Troop has two treks reserved for June, 2003 5. Meetings - Bill Merriman o Nothing to report 6. Leadership - Tom Schob o Oak Leaf training will be March 23-24 at Camp James Ray. o Applications for Troop Guide 2002-2003 are due March 25. o Junior Leader training has been rescheduled for April 20. First year Scouts should plan to attend this. o Applications for troop leadership positions for 2002-2003 will be sent out in early April. 7. Advancement - Bonnie Branch o Webelos Bridging ceremonies - Pack 516 - March 19 at CARE Dave Knust represented Troop 81 - Pack 576 - March 22 Richard Carter will represent Troop 81 Troop 81 will provide the Arrow of Light team - Pack 871 - March 26 at Dartmouth Ed Nichols will represent Troop 81 - Pack 727 - April 27 at Cleburne SP Ed Nichols will represent Troop 81 o Eagles - Pat Kelly - The following Scouts completed their reports: Jirah Cox, Scott Kelly. - The following Scouts are writing their reports: Scott Steger, CJ Carter. - The following Scouts are working on their project plans: Jeff Collins, Travis Carter, Jay Herrin, Ben Nichols, Brenden Kerr. o Merit badges - Bonnie Branch still needs anyone who teaches merit badges to fill out a merit badge counselor information sheet. 8.
