Calendar TBD: Troop tent sale Aug 14: Troop Committee meeting Aug 19: First troop meeting of 2002-2003 year: Pool Party Aug 24: Saturday patrol meetings to get gear ready for fall campouts 2. Treasurer - Sharon Hood o Brookhollow Bank changed its name to Regions Bank o June report - 11 month YTD income is $42,393. Expenses are $39,651. Troop is on track to break even for the year. o Proposed budget. - Sharon Hood presented the budget for 2002-2003. - Dues will increase from $60/year to $65, in part to cover a $3 increase in BSA national dues. - A fundraiser is in the budget to cover the cost of a troop storage shed. PLC is in charge of organizing T-shirt sales for this fundraiser. - A troop tent sale is in the budget, with proceeds earmarked for purchasing other troop equipment. Date is to be determined. - The troop committee unanimously approved the proposed budget. 3. PLC o No report 4. Roundtable - Ed Nichols o No Roundtable this month 5. Campouts - Craig Christensen o Summer Camp review - 54 Scouts attended and 9 adults (5 for the whole week) - 1 Scout staffed Summer Camp (Travis Carter) - 16 Scouts achieved Tenderfoot rank; 1 Scout made Star - 1 Scout was tapped out for OA (Hunter Christensen) - Troop won regatta, raft race, best campsite awards - Troop plans to reserve same campsite, same week (7) for 2003 - Troop financials were in the black, with the surplus to be rebated to adults who staffed camp, in accordance with past practice. Rebates will be in proportion to the number of nights attended, up to a maximum of the fee paid for their son to attend camp. Troop committee approved this policy for handling surpluses for long-term camps (Summer Camp and Winter Camp) in order to help attract sufficient adult attendance to make camps possible. o Northern Tier review - The troop sent one crew this summer on this canoe trip in Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. Trip was a success. - Next opportunity is Summer, 2003, in case an adult wants to volunteer to organize a crew. o Sea Base review - The troop sent one boat this summer on this sailing/snorkeling trip in the Florida Keys. Trip was a success. - Next opportunity is Summer, 2004. Reservations will need to be made Feb 3, 2003. Paula Powell will organize. o Philmont - Mark Steger - Troop has 27 people signed up for our June, 2003 treks. Tent sale will be rescheduled for another time. - Craig Christensen plans to set new standards for chuck boxes, perhaps replacing our existing bulky and heavy boxes. Craig was not present to report progress on this plan. - The troop plans to hold patrol meetings Saturday, August 24 to go through troop and patrol gear to prepare for upcoming Fall campouts. 6. Meetings - Dave Knust o Calendar - Dave was not present to pass out updated copies of the troop calendar for 2002-2003. Expect these by the August troop committee meeting. 7. Leadership - Tom Schob o Scout leadership - Tom passed out updated sheets showing Scout troop leadership assignments for Fall, 2002. 8. Advancement - Bonnie Branch o Eagles - Pat Kelly - Jirah Cox had an Eagle Court of Honor. - Brenden Kerr passed his Eagle Board of Review. - Jay Herrin and Scott Steger completed their project reports. - CJ Carter is writing his project report. - Ben Scott, Scott Bonds, Steven Schob, Jeff Collins, Travis Carter, Jordan Hoff are working on their project plans. 9. Committee - Mark Steger o Background checks on adults - RBFC requires and BSA strongly recommends that troops perform criminal background checks on adult volunteers. No decision has been made yet on what service to use for this check. Craig Christensen is talking to RBFC about this. --- Mark Steger
